Smithfield and Charterhouse Square are steeped in history, and Le Café du Marché is one of the area’s oldest restaurants, since Charlie Graham-Wood opened the doors in 1986.
Our historic building was originally stabling and coach houses for neighbouring Charterhouse and later was used as a corset factory, then a medical storage warehouse for nearby St. Bart’s hospital.
Le Café du Marché is named to reflect its proximity to Smithfield meat market – the country’s largest wholesale meat market. When Le Café du Marché opened over thirty years ago, it was one of the first restaurants in the area.
With a family lineage hailing from the culinary capital of Lyon, Charlie Graham-Wood sought to bring straightforward, honest French food to his tables. Our menu features authentic, provincial French cuisine and makes the best of fresh and seasonal ingredients from the markets
